This comprehensive eight-wicket win has significantly bolstered Sri Lanka's campaign, placing them once more in contention for a spot in the top four. Presently, Sri Lanka boasts four points from five matches, with a net run rate of -0.205.
Meanwhile, England's hopes of making it to the semi-finals have dwindled considerably, having suffered three consecutive losses and a fourth defeat in the league stage. England has managed to secure just one victory in the World Cup 2023.
The defending champions, England, now find themselves in the ninth position, ranking lower than both Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

It must be noted that Sri Lanka pushed England closer to the World Cup exit door on Thursday when they defeated the defending champions at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru
While chasing a target of 157, Sri Lanka cruised in the run chase by losing only two wickets. After losing Kusal Perera and skipper Kusal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka (77*) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (65*) steered the run chase with a 137-run partnership
England are now scheduled to play against the hosts India on October 29 in Lucknow while Sri Lanka face Afghanistan in Pune on October 30.
